Saddle Fitting
Every saddle fitter approaches fitting differently. At K&K Saddlery, we believe that proper saddle fit cannot be accurately determined from photographs alone. While photos can offer a general impression, true fit must be assessed in person—by seeing the saddle on the horse and feeling how it moves and distributes pressure.
During a fitting appointment, I will evaluate your current saddle and how it fits both you and your horse. If your saddle is not appropriate, I can provide basic measurements and professional guidance to help you understand what to look for in a replacement. While I cannot recommend a specific make or model to purchase without physically assessing it, I will gladly help narrow options and assist in the search process.
One of the challenges in saddle fitting is that there are no standardized saddle trees in the United States. Each manufacturer works with different tree makers, each using unique shapes and bar styles. Because of this, fit can vary significantly between brands—even when labeled similarly. Without firsthand familiarity with a specific tree design and seeing it on your horse, a proper fit cannot be guaranteed.
It’s also important to remember that saddle fit involves both horse and rider. A saddle that fits the horse but not the rider can still create balance and comfort issues, just as a rider-friendly saddle that doesn’t fit the horse can cause soreness or performance problems.
To make fittings more efficient, I travel with a trailer of saddles available to try when needed. I also offer custom saddle fittings for riders interested in a fully tailored solution.
My goal is simple: to help you and your horse find a comfortable, functional saddle that works for both of you. If your current saddle isn’t suitable, I’ll guide you through the best next steps and, when possible, fit multiple trial saddles in one visit to save you time and money.
If you have questions or would like to discuss your needs, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to help.

What to Expect During Your Fitting
Each session includes a full evaluation of your current saddle (if applicable), your horse’s conformation and movement, and your balance and comfort as a rider. Saddles may be assessed both at a standstill and in motion to ensure proper fit, pressure distribution, and overall performance.
You may be asked to ride during the fitting process.
*Trying saddles under movement is strongly recommended to achieve the most accurate results.
When available, multiple saddles may be tried in one session to help find the best possible match.
How to Prepare for Your Appointment
To get the most out of your fitting session, please:
• Have your horse clean and dry
• Bring your current saddle(s), pads, and any equipment you normally ride in
• Be prepared to ride at walk, trot/jog, and lope (as appropriate)
• Use your typical riding footwear and gear
• Share any soreness, performance concerns, or fit issues you’ve noticed
Important Notes
Saddle fitting is based on professional assessment, hands-on evaluation, and rider feedback. While guidance and recommendations are provided, final saddle selection and purchase decisions remain the responsibility of the client. Proper fit can vary by brand, tree design, and individual horse movement.
We love them but, Please keep your pups away from the fitting/riding area.
